Earthlore
Mythic World is the result of several years of research
and development. The inspiring objective was a vision
of an immersive
landscape. A place for explorers to interact with the mythologies of
our world. Many exceptional literary works are currently available on
Mythology. For the contemporary seeker, lacking is a pathway offering
a vivid, textural exploration of this significant realm of human experience.
In
Western society, what remains to speak to us of these
ancient traditions, does so through the wayward stepchildren
of Myth, which saturate our popular culture. Although
drawn from our collective memory, without proper context,
these contemporary treatments go on misleading generation
after generation.
Over
the past decade there has been a great resurgence
of interest in World Mythology. This is due, for the most
part, to the recognition of the late author/teacher Joseph
Campbell. Through the widely broadcasted interview series
The Power of Myth, with Bill Moyers, interest was renewed
in Campbell's many publications. With a fresh perspective,
this innovative thinker succeeded in breathing new life
into mythological legacies. Framed within a contemporary
context, myth began to speak to our age with relevance.
It
was, however, a strong belief of Campbell's, that
a person should not be forced towards an interest in Myth.
He felt that they should, through chance, be caught by
it somehow. For, he often stated, "with the proper introduction,
Mythology will catch you."

In
elder Ireland, individuals who held these two positions
were awarded a great respect. Rarely were written texts
set down. The history and so the very power of the clan
was entrusted to those skilled in the arts of memory,
lore keeping and story telling. |
Why
be caught by Myth at all? Well, as Campbell, and countless
generations of seekers learned, Mythology can lead us to
an understanding of who we are, and in time, to an enriched
experience and appreciation of being alive.
Today,
some ten years beyond the
death of Joseph Campbell, there remains no living introduction
into the Labyrinth that is World Myth. This is so, even
as current world events leave us all with an unquenchable
yearning for some form of understanding.
With
this crisis of imbalance serving as our motivation,
Earthlore has developed an unprecedented educational resource
for the exploration of World Myth. It is our intent to make
available for contemporary seekers this work through the
vehicles of digital media.
Within
Earthlore will always be found paths of learning through
cultural subjects such as the great cathedral era of medieval
Europe. You will also find journeys into larger questions;
Who are we, reflected through our cultural heritage?...
What are the historical forces which led us to where we
are today?... What, if any, is our destiny as globally connected,
yet unique, cultures? Here, you may explore the great mysteries
of history, and perhaps come to understand a little more
about the mystery of your own self. What you will not find,
is an underlying message or a political view being promoted.

"Throughout the inhabited
world, in all times and under every circumstance,
the myths of man have flourished; and they have been
the living inspiration for whatever else may have
appeared out of the activities of the human body and
mind. It would not be too much to say that myth is
the secret opening through which the inexhaustable
energies of the cosmos pour into human cultural manifestation.

The
intent of Earthlore is to encourage and support individual
quests and original thinking. These features were created
as source for content rich interaction with subjects of
cultural history. To this end, the content featured will
center around the personal experiences and findings of those
who have immersed themselves in these subjects. All subjects
will be treated objectively and presented in a manner best
suited for subjective utilization. Within this stance, we
look forward to the sharing of your own views!
What
is found here, has been created with a potential for
subjective integration. In other words, these glimpses are
designed for active collaboration with your own life studies
and conclusions. We offer the information as objectively
as possible, for we cannot know the exact context of your
journey or the interpretations you will require.
Drawing
upon previously untapped resources, and utilizing the
potential of current technology, a structure has been created
which liberates the study of Myth. Utilizing the innovative
educational forms developed by Immersity Lakes, an exploratory
environment has taken shape. Within this space, one may
encounter a sense of contact with aged world views, and
perhaps catch a glimpse of majesty.
Seldom
do reference works present a fair, well-rounded representation
of the entire spectrum of Earth's mythologies. Following
the general structure of writings published in the past
century, one would think little of value exists, mythologically,
outside the Mediterranean.
Earthlore
will be presenting resources on the fuller breadth of
Myth. In this process, treatments will remain loyal to the
integrity of each distinct culture. This will not be solely
an Earthlore perspective on mythology. Very often the creativity
behind our references emanates from within the featured
culture. Through this distinctive voice, seekers are enabled
with the power to enter into the landscape of a mythic system.
Earthlore's
resources and products are developed with a respect
that everyone approaches learning in a subjective style,
with unique needs. One person may be interested only in
a brief profile of a particular goddess, while another seeks
a long-term understanding of a mythological system, and
its parent culture. Studies may include a visit to the landscape
from which the mythic system arose. Each stance is valid,
and each may be pursued through Earthlore.
It
is a primary function of Mythic World to serve the many
needs of those seeking a deeper knowledge, even experience
of Myth. It is our objective to guide individuals in customizing
their own unique learning adventures according to personal
interest and manner. Our intent is to provide what we ourselves
have sought to find in our own studies of Myth. To this
process your input is welcome, should you have need for
something which you do not yet find within.
For
the present, we offer an introduction to what is being
prepared for Mythic World. Over the coming months, there
will be substantial additions to these pages, as well as
quite a few surprises. We hope that you enjoy your visit
here, and that you take away something of personal value!
Do come back! Your journey will be well rewarded. If you
are interested in receiving updates regarding the development
of Mythic World, just send us a short request. Our scribes
will see to it that you do not miss a single tale.
This
is an exploratory study. These pages are designed with
a potential for subjective integration. The words and images
are set for active collaboration with your own life studies
and explorations. We offer information as objectively as
possible, for we cannot know the exact context of your study
or the interpretations you may require. As the realms of
myth are very much a visual experience, we have included
an impressive selection of images which encourage a stance
of exploratory experience.
